Who made this, and how
China, Place by Place (图外) is a one-person company. The founder decides what we cover, approves every publication and is responsible for it. AI tools do most of the daily work: finding Chinese public sources, comparing them, drafting in English, building these pages and checking facts against the ledger.
| Step | Done by | What you can check |
|---|---|---|
| Find and compare sources | AI | Original link, publisher and date for each fact |
| Write the English draft | AI | Drafts are marked as drafts |
| Re-check each fact against its source | AI, separate pass | Ledger status and check date |
| Approve publication | Founder | Named on each published piece |
| Walk the route | A person on site | Only then the label Field-verified |
What the labels mean
Field-verified Desk-checked Needs evidence
- Field-verified: someone checked it on site and we keep the record.
- Desk-checked: a reliable public source supports it. Nobody has checked it on site.
- Needs evidence: we haven't found good enough proof yet. Don't rely on it.
Photos
Photos are real photographs under licences that allow reuse. Each caption names the photographer, the licence and the original. We resize photos and don't change their colours. See photo credits.
Independence
No paid placement. If a business relationship ever affects a page, the page says so. When we quote an interview someone else published, we name the outlet and the interviewer.
